Seattle Snowfall

--

13 February 2021

Tonight falls bright on rising snow
Forgotten crystal sting.
The midnight light so rare up here
Remembers everything.

Most winter nights the deepened Sound
Enfolds impenetrable.
Tonight reflections shadow dance
Persuasion’s fading fable.

I feel the shivering shape of you
Beneath your thin peacoat.
Your mother wondered if these years
Would keep aboard the boat.

The harbor derricks claw the moon.
Boot tracks accumulate.
One velvet print packs down to ice
Not fast enough to skate.

Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, San Antonio, Misawa, Saint Cloud. The people of these places have shaped me. I hope I shape them. I just put food on plates.
